What Does Alignment Actually Mean in Everyday Life?

Alignment in everyday life means acting on what you understand to be true. It is not measured by whether a choice feels comfortable, positive or easy.
Alignment is a word used so loosely within spiritual spaces that it can mean almost anything.
It is often associated with feeling good, trusting your intuition, receiving signs or having life unfold easily. When something feels uncomfortable or difficult, it can then be tempting to assume that we have moved out of alignment.
However, alignment is not measured by how pleasant an experience feels.
An aligned choice can be uncomfortable. It can ask us to face something we would rather avoid, take responsibility for a pattern or move away from what has become familiar.
Alignment is the ongoing relationship between what we understand to be true and the choices we make each day.
Does moving towards greater alignment always feel good?
Greater alignment can bring clarity, empowerment and freedom. However, moving towards it does not always feel good.
Moving towards alignment may require us to recognise an uncomfortable pattern, face something we have been avoiding or make a choice that takes us beyond what feels familiar. This is often the point where we retreat into our comfort zone and repeat the old response.
Sometimes we feel comfortable precisely because we are repeating what is familiar. We may avoid a difficult conversation, postpone a decision or remain within a pattern because it protects us from immediate discomfort.
The relief can feel like confirmation that we have made the right choice. In reality, we may have only escaped the discomfort involved in changing direction.
Speaking honestly may feel uncomfortable. Setting a boundary can bring guilt. Making a different choice can create uncertainty. Taking responsibility for our part in a situation may challenge how we previously understood it.
Discomfort does not automatically mean we are moving away from alignment. It may be evidence that we are no longer allowing comfort to make the decision for us.

Through my work as a Soul Realignment® practitioner, I often find that people already understand what they want to change. The difficulty is recognising the pattern while it is influencing the choice in front of them. Awareness creates the opportunity to choose differently, but it does not replace the choice itself.
I explored one everyday example of this in What Washing the Dishes Taught Me About Disempowerment, where the action remained the same, but the reason behind it changed.
How can you examine whether a choice supports greater alignment?
When you are unsure whether a choice supports greater alignment, it may help to step away from whether it feels good and consider why you are making it:
Why am I choosing this?
What do I believe to be true about this situation?
What pattern may be influencing my response?
What am I trying to create through this choice?
What am I trying to avoid?
Am I consciously choosing this, or acting as though the decision has been imposed upon me?
Does the reason behind my choice reflect the qualities I want to express?
What could I do to express those qualities more clearly?
These questions will not always produce an immediate answer.
Their purpose is to bring your attention back to your participation in the situation. They help separate spiritual language from the choices through which alignment is actually expressed.
Is alignment something we ever fully achieve?
Alignment is not a permanent state that we finally reach and remain in.
As our circumstances change, different patterns can become active. We make choices, experience their results and develop a clearer understanding of ourselves.
Alignment is the continuing practice of bringing awareness, personal responsibility and conscious choice into that process.
Sometimes we can recognise what we are doing without being able to see the deeper pattern influencing it.
If you are ready to understand your Divine Soul Blueprint and explore the Soul-level patterns that may be influencing your choices, a Soul Realignment® Reading can provide a grounded place to begin.
A Soul Realignment® Reading is completed by accessing your Akashic Records. It can provide information about your Divine Soul Blueprint and identify Soul-level patterns influencing your choices and experience.
The reading does not make your decisions for you. It provides information that can support greater awareness, responsibility and aligned action.
