What Washing the Dishes Taught Me About Disempowerment

For a long time, I knew that disempowerment was part of my negative polarity. I had learned this through my Divine Soul Blueprint. I understood the pattern intellectually and could recognise some of the ways it had influenced my experience.

But knowing that disempowerment was present was very different from being conscious enough to experience it while it was happening.

That was the change.

I began noticing what it felt like when my awareness was fully present within my physical body, rather than remaining at the level of thought, analysis or spiritual understanding.

When I thought about disempowerment, I could explain it.

When I stayed present with it, I could feel it.

And feeling it was uncomfortable.

Knowing a pattern is not the same as changing it

We can know a great deal about ourselves without that knowledge changing how we live. This can be particularly easy within spiritual development. We learn the language, recognise our patterns and understand what alignment is supposed to look like. However, understanding something within the mind does not mean we are making a different choice within our physical experience.

When I became present enough to feel disempowerment in my body, my immediate instinct was to move away from it.

My awareness wanted to return to thinking, analysing, imagining or finding another way to avoid the discomfort. That movement away from the present moment was part of the pattern itself.

If I wanted to change the energy, I had to remain present long enough to recognise what was happening and make a different choice.

My first clear experience of doing this happened while I was washing the dishes.

The moment I recognised disempowerment

There was nothing particularly dramatic happening.

I was standing at the sink, washing dishes. I was not in an obviously bad mood, but I was not experiencing joy either.

I was experiencing what had felt normal to me for a long time.

When I became more present, I could feel the disempowerment within that normal state. I was completing an ordinary task with the underlying energy that I had to do it.

The task was not the problem. The energy from which I was doing it was what needed my attention.

Disempowerment had turned a simple action into something being imposed upon me. Somewhere within my experience was the message that I should be doing the dishes, even though no one was standing there forcing me to do them.

My own choice had disappeared from the experience.

So I reminded myself of something very simple:

I was choosing to wash the dishes.

I like having a clean and tidy home. My physical environment affects me, and caring for that environment supports me.

I also gave myself permission to stop. I could walk away from the sink if that was what I genuinely chose to do. There would be dishes waiting for me later, but I was still free to make that decision.

Once I recognised that I had a choice, I decided to continue.

It sounds like a very small distinction, but it was enough to crack the disempowerment within that moment.

I was no longer washing the dishes because I believed I had no choice. I was washing them because I had consciously decided that the result mattered to me.

The action stayed the same, but the energy changed

The dishes did not become exciting. I did not force myself to feel joyful or pretend that an ordinary household task was something it was not.

What changed was my relationship with the action.

I moved from experiencing the task as an obligation being imposed upon me to recognising it as a choice I was making in support of the environment I wanted to live in.

This is an important distinction because empowerment does not always mean making a completely different decision.

Sometimes the aligned choice is to stop doing something. At other times, it is to continue with the same action while becoming honest about why you are choosing it.

The external action may look exactly the same. Internally, however, you are no longer reinforcing the belief that you are powerless within your own experience.

This does not mean every limitation can be overcome by changing your attitude. People can face genuine restrictions, responsibilities and circumstances that limit the choices available to them.

In this particular moment, the restriction was not external. I had simply stopped recognising the agency I still had.

Why my Divine Soul Blueprint mattered

My Divine Soul Blueprint gave me a way to understand what I was experiencing.

My positive polarity is the Joy of the Physical Plane. Disempowerment sits within the negative expression of that polarity.

Knowing this did not mean I could force myself to feel joyful. It gave me a direction.

Joy was not something I needed to perform while standing at the sink. My first step was to stop unconsciously reinforcing disempowerment.

That is one of the most valuable things I have learned from understanding my Divine Soul Blueprint. It does not hand me a perfect response for every situation. It shows me the energetic direction that supports greater alignment and the negative pattern that can pull me away from it.

My responsibility is to notice which direction I am moving in and make a conscious choice within my physical experience.

Alignment happens through physical choice

This moment at the kitchen sink was only the beginning.

I had already done a great deal of personal work, but this experience helped me become much more conscious of the energy I was in while taking action.

That is where alignment becomes practical.

It is not only what we understand, intend or imagine. It is also the energy we continue to reinforce through our everyday choices.

We can spend years thinking about the life we want to create. However, our experience begins to change when we become present enough to notice what we are choosing, why we are choosing it and what energy that choice is strengthening.

For me, the questions became:

Am I acting as though I have no choice?

Is that actually true within this situation?

What am I choosing, and why does that choice matter to me?

What would it mean to take this action without reinforcing disempowerment?

These questions helped me stay within the physical moment rather than escaping into thought.

What alignment now means to me

Alignment is not a permanent state that we finally achieve.

For me, it is the practice of recognising when I have moved into disempowerment and becoming present enough to make another choice.

Sometimes that choice changes the action. Sometimes it changes the energy from which I take the action.

The shift at the kitchen sink was small, but it changed what I could recognise within myself. It showed me that I could experience disempowerment without immediately escaping it, and that I could challenge the pattern through a conscious physical choice.

That is how I began moving towards Joy within my own physical experience.

Not through pretending that every moment was joyful, but by noticing where disempowerment had become normal and choosing not to keep strengthening it.

If you understand your patterns intellectually but continue to repeat them within your physical experience, a Soul Realignment® Reading can help you explore your Divine Soul Blueprint and the influences affecting your choices.

The reading does not make those choices for you. It gives you information that can support greater awareness, responsibility and aligned action.
